Political Crybabies: Top ten cartoons of the week

What are their so many fragile egos out there these days?

In the world of politics, everyone seems so easily offended, from the congressperson doing TV hits to the guy at the bar still reading the newspaper. Dave Whamond mocked those who tend to make mountains out of molehills in our most-reprinted cartoon of the week, which means editors are sick of them, too.

Getting back to the Trump administration, John Darkow had a funny take this week on the idea of mass deportations, pitting Santa Clause against the U.S. Border Patrol. So much for Timmy’s gifts this Christmas. Santa starred into another popular cartoon by Darkow this week, but this time the focus was on Trump’s plan to increase tariffs.

Turkey day: Top ten cartoons of the week

Thanksgiving has come and gone, and the least surprising development was the popularity of our turkey day cartoons.

Some cartoonists hate drawing holiday cartoons, but editors and readers clearly love them. Especially in a year where sweeping political change is heading towards Washington.

Rick McKee won the holiday, penning our three most popular cartoons of the week. Turns out lots of people were worried about politics ruining their feasts.

I also enjoyed Dave Granlund’s cartoon comparing the crowded conditions on the Mayflower with the congested roads of Thanksgiving today.

Trump’s chaos: Top ten cartoons of the week

Remember the chaos of Donald Trump’s first four years in office? Well, it’s back with a vengeance thanks to some off-the-wall cabinet nominees, including former Florida Rep. Matt Gaetz, who was forced to withdraw from becoming Trump’s attorney general.

Chris Weyant hit the nail on the head with his popular cartoon about a family wanting to hibernate for the next four years. I also laughed at R.J. Matson’s cartoon, which features two honest politicians wondering how to get ahead in Trump’s Washington.

But out most-reprinted cartoon this week, which came from Randall Enos, had nothing to do with Trump or Washington, D.C.. Turns out we could all use a little distraction from politics.

A country on edge: Top ten cartoons of the week

If this past week taught us anything, it’s that Donald Trump’s second term will be just as chaotic and exhausting as his first.

I thought Jeff Koterba’s popular cartoon this week captured the moment perfectly, as Americans doomscroll while Trump’s wild Cabinet picks come in. I also enjoyed R.J. Matson’s cartoon about a battered Democrat returning to Washington a lame duck.

Election fatigue: Top ten cartoons of the week

The election might not have turned out how you hoped, but at least you won’t be shown any campaign ads for a while.

That doesn’t mean you’re not allowed to be exhausted. Some of our most popular cartoons this week were about the fatigue of voting, followed up with the anxiety of waiting hours to find out the results.

Overlooked in all of this were the election workers, most of whom are volunteers, who showed up despite four years of threats and insults. I compared them to the heroes of Iwo Jima in World War II in my cartoon, which still doesn’t feel like enough praise.

Go vote! Top ten cartoons of the week

What are you waiting for – go out and vote!

More than 62 million Americans have already cast their ballot in the election between Kamala Harris and Donald Trump. According to Gallup, more than half of all U.S. votes – upwards of 80 million people – are expected to be cast by Election Day.

I still have a hard time believing anyone is undecided at this point, which I mocked in my voting cartoon this week. I also chuckled at Chris Weyant’s Halloween themed cartoon, where the scariest costume was a calendar with Election Day circled.

Buckle up.

The election nears: Top ten cartoons of the week

Election day is less than two weeks away, which means plenty of time for you to be inundated with more polls, campaign ads, and conspiracy theories about voting.

Our most popular cartoon of the week came from Bob Englehart, who suggests a nice, long hibernation to sleep through the inevitable recounts, legal battles, and fake controversies on social media. Editors also liked Chris Weyant’s cartoon about polls, which you should stop reading immediately if you want to reclaim your sanity before Election Day.

Can’t escape the election: Top ten cartoons of the week

Kamala Harris is polling ahead in Pennsylvania. No wait, make that Donald Trump. Wait, maybe it’s Harris?

We’re about three weeks away from the presidential election, and whether it’s new polls or the latest campaign ads, it’s impossible to escape coverage of this year’s contest.

Our most popular cartoon of the week was drawn by Gary McCoy, and featured a father’s emotional reactions to political ads on TV. I also enjoyed John Darkow’s cartoon reminiscing about a time when we didn’t seem to care so much about other people’s politics.

Election nears: Top ten cartoons of the week

The election is less than a month away, but those four weeks are going to feel incredibly long, thanks to the wall-to-wall coverage the contest between Kamala Harris and Donald Trump is receiving. Wish I had better news, but it’s only going to get worse the closer we get to Nov. 5.

I laughed at Dave Whamond’s advent calendar-themed election cartoon, which mocks how painful the next month will be for all of us. But this week’s most-reprinted cartoon comes from John Darkow, who reminds us it’s not just the leaves changing this fall.

Undecided voters: Top ten cartoons of the week

After everything we know, how can any voter still remain undecided?

That confusing indecisiveness is what Chris Weyant is mocking in our most-reprinted cartoon this week, which features a green leaf holding off on changing its colors. Gary McCoy went a different approach, using a scooped-out pumpkin as a stand-in for voters inundated with attack ads and campaign spots.

The election is about a month away. If you don’t want to read the news, you can at least enjoy our top ten most reprinted cartoons of the week:
