Despite the Supreme Court ruling Trump’s tariffs were illegal, I wouldn’t count on receiving a refund. Even though some Democrats, including California Gov. Gavin Newsome and Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker, are demanding Trump pay $1,700 per household, there doesn’t appear to me much appetite for his administration to cough up billions of dollars.
While the odds are low, some will happily sit around in the hopes of landing a government check. Our most-popular cartoon this week was a John Darkow drawing about two men doing just that – sitting in the snow waiting for their tariff rebate check.
Elsewhere in the world of politics, editors loved Paul Duginski’s cartoon mocking wanna-be president candidates for writing a book before officially launching their campaign. So don’t start worrying about a possible Trump third term until preorders for his new book start showing up.
