Education cuts: Top ten cartoons of the week

Donald Trump didn’t hide the fact he wanted to shutter the Department of Education while on the campaign trail. Now that he’s president, he’s trying to follow through, though he’ll ultimately need the help of Congress to kill the agency for good.

In the meanwhile, the Education Department announced it was slicing its workforce in half, and cuts could impact everything from student loans to Pell grants to programs like the Rural Education Achievement Program, which helps fun low-income schools in rural areas.

John Darkow’s funny cartoon about an angry kid who thinks school has been canceled because the Education Department is being closed was our most-reprinted cartoon of the week. I also enjoyed Dave Whamond’s cartoon, which used a March Madness bracket to predict with state would be the first to get rid of education entirely.
